if anyone is interested in joining us, Ange and I are going up to Santa Barbara on Tue Dec 27th, and planning an all-day ride in/around the area on Wed, heading back to North San Diego on Thursday

Routes could include

- 154 by Lake Cachuma

- lunch in Solvang or I was told I shouldn't miss Cold Springs Tavern https://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30463

- maybe a full loop including 166 and 33 (which I've done before)

https://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/713/California/The-Santa-Barbara-Ventura-County-loop.html

- this looks fun https://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/TepusquetRd.htm

- as does Santa Rosa Rd (Lompoc to Solvang) and Jalama Beach Rd (south of Lompoc to coast)

Riding back to North San Diego on Thursday, and plan to hit Mulholland over to Las Flores

https://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/992/California/The-Famous-Rock-Store-Run-(Mulholland-Highway).html

So, for the locals - any recommendation(s) on a full day ride?

Hi Lawrence!

I may meet you for lunch on Wednesday at Cold Springs Tavern say around 11:30AM? Ever been to the motorcycle museum in Solvang? Me = never! Santa Rosa Road to Lompoc, then north over Harris grade to Casmalia/Orcutt. You 2 can finish the day riding 166 to 33 after I/? peel off on the 101 north back to SLO? Bring heated gear for the summit near Pine Mountain on 33. Late in the day it can get COLD.

Route to be discussed?

Lawrence - That sounds very tempting.

I must recomend one place in SB if you like fish, Brophy Brothers, near the warf. :yahoo: The BEST! If not for lunch then dinner. Just sayin.

Argh - type nice reply, then lose it

Motorcycle museum in Solvang - I have not been - I'll look that up.

Route - open for discussion absolutely

Temp over mountain pass - Have OEM heated grips - installed in Jan (posted about it here https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=135069) - I love wearing summer gloves year-round :yahoo: except when raining

That and Aerostitch Roadcrafter with a couple of layers on - I'm good down to freezing temps

Vacation time - yup ... is defintely nice. took this week and last off

Though loks like 2012 might get busy as well. I'm still looking to repeat my 8-day/3,100 mile Lap of California

This week - Christmas shopping and errands like tire and recall on FJR (winner me - whole new harness on order due to be installed tomorrow or Fri)

Next week - play time - looks like sunny and cool - fantastic!

Route challenge - Cold Springs tavern recommended, but too close to Santa Barbara to have it as a mid-day point without lots of backtracking

Ignoring Cold Springs Tavern for lunch, here is a 280mile route - just a starting point for discussion

I could join you on some of it(?), but I can't start in Santa Barbara. SB is at least 2 hours south of me on the slab in the morning when it's cold, then I get to back track. If you consider running your route in the reverse, I could meet you in Buellton at say 10:00AM? Buellton makes a meet up more doable for me.

Note; If you go out to Jalama Beach (a dead end), and plan to enter the County park or even to get a burger, there is a $10 per vehicle fee see; https://www.countyofsb.org/parks/parks06.aspx?id=9196

Also possible(?) to eat a late B'fast in Buellton at Mother Hubbard's; https://motherhubbardsrestaurant.com/Breakfast.aspx

Maybe after late B'fast, you might consider(?) Zaca Creek Rd. to Foxen Canyon Road (leads into Tepesquet Rd. then on to 166), instead of Santa Rosa Rd. Jalama Beach and Harris Grade?

If you do want to go Harris Grade then a possibility of lunch at either The Far Western Tavern in Guadalupe ;https://www.farwesterntavern.com/news_and_media.htm#move

or lunch at Jocko's in Nipomo; https://www.jockosmix.com/jockos-history

If any of the latter works for you in Buellton in the AM(?) I can ride with you until I depart/turn around on 166 to head back north, and you would continue east on 166 to 33 and Ojai.

I can either ride or not ride that day, but the weather will definitely be favorable!

It's in your court.

If you go into Jalama and spend $8, I think it's $8...a burger, fries, and sodee-pop does it, at the store, you get 90 minutes of use for free. Just tell them what you're doing at the kiosk a be sure to keep and take your receipt from the restaurant with you and present it to the kiosk when leaving and your golden. The burgers are very good!

Tree Doc - I recall reading about the option to eat for a pass.

George - just got the FJR back today

My thinking now is

1. Ride up tomorrow, hit Malibu hills, Rock Store, Mullholand, etc Tue mid-day/afternoon

2. Wed Dec 28

Maybe ride east in the early AM thru Ojai, 33 up to 166, over to Santa Maria.

maybe meet up then?

I have your cell phone # from my Lap of California ride in summer '09. If you still have same #, great. Otherwise check your PM for my new info

I'd offer to connect with you guys but I'm riding to NorCal tomorrow morning. Gonna spend a couple days killin' some ducks and geese and pack my side cases with dead birds, again.

Possible weather on Wed. so you may just get the only good bird hunting days this season. While your at it you may shoot all the forest rats in these parts-please!

Sent you a return PM.

Let's ride!

Current Plan

- depart Santa Barbara by 8a. Ojai, Hwy 33 over pass (being careful of possible black ice, etc) to 166 West.

- Meet Khunajawdge in New Cayuma (gas station at 10a)

- Continue west on 166 to Tepusquest Rd south to Foxen Cyn Rd to Buellton. Santa Rosa Rd to 1 to Jalama Rd to the beach for lunch (per Tree Doc's note).

back track to Buellton into Solvang then continue on 154 to Santa Barbara

Dinner (hear the tri tip is supposed to be real good) at Cold Springs Tavern

Per Pashnit route comments - if we hit Solvang early and have a few extra hours

Add Ballard Cyn Rd to Figueroa Mtn Rd to Happy Camp Rd to Cold Springs tavern

Hoping you two had a great ride!

Post up?
Ride's not until Wednesday, I'm meeting Laurence at New Cayama at 10:00AM.

Take the day off, gas up the Strom, and join us DC?
I wish I could, but I have two appointments with faculty tomorrow - and one poor guy lost all his data due to hard drive crash.

Take lots of pix and report up, please?
