Dang I wish I could join you .... I'll be a bachelor for a few weeks starting that weekend but I'll be on the Venture that Saturday coming back from Arkansas...guess I'll just have to entertain myself by scraping floorboards on the twisties in the Mark Twain NF.

Maybe see some of you the following weekend at the SC.

I'm definitely in for this ride. :yahoo:
I'm taking the week off and riding up north I'll be leaving either that Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully I'll get way up into Minn. and catch this ride on the way back. I'm planning on camping all the way (unless it's a monsoon or blizzard or I need a soft bed and a hot shower-which might be more often than I think  ).

Anybody is welcome to tag along or meet me along the way. I have no real itinerary except north and west then back to Madison for the ride.

2 cents anybody?
That is a great setup for a good ride and an interesting story!

I'll look forward to hearing about your trip, either, in person or in writing on the forum.

+1 0Face, let me know if you get to the Twin Cities.

Joe & I have reservations set up at the Red Roof Inn Friday & Saturday night & if you're an AMA member you can get a 20% discount there.

It's on the east side of Madison, but it's inexpensive ($59.99/night-includes discount) & if plans change it's easy to cancel.

Look forward to the ride!!

Less than a week until our spin around SW Wisconsin! :shout:

In a later thread posting, you will find turn-by-turn directions for Saturday the 27th from Microsoft Streets & Trips. (Sorry guys, I'm not with the 21st century yet and am still without a GPS :slow: ).

Email me at [email protected] if you want the entire MS S&T file. It may not be compatible with your version but we can try.

Alright... I'll see you guys in Madison. I'm leaving in the morning, heading up through northern Wisconsin over to northern Minnesota, around and down to Mad Town. I'm hoping to be in on Friday.

Turns out my wife's friend lives in Middleton (can you say free stay?). I'll check and see if there's room for anybody else. I'll have my Blackberry but it's not so good at reading the forum. Email me, "martinbwalsh (at) gmail.com" if anything changes.

Hey Gramps,

Now that we're taking all day Friday to make the four and a half hour trip to Madison, we should probably think about what detours we can take.

Where do we want to cross the River? La Crescent, MN? Lansing, IA?

That looks good to me. :clapping:

It's been a couple years since I've been down on 16...lets do it.

It's sort of out of your way but, if you have time, you could always ride Rte 26 south along the Iowa side of the Mississippi and then take the ferry to cross at Cassville. Right now, the weather forecast appears to be favorable and there's just something cool about crossing rivers by ferry! :)

Looks like I am in for Saturday only w/dinner. I will be leaving Friday about 4:30 or 5 from the greater western Chicago suburb of Elburn, if anyone is leaving from that area of passing by let me know.

I will be bringing my new camera, want to try it out on some action flybys and such.

Check if it is still open.
Excellent point. It is getting to that time of year, isn't it? :glare:

The good news is that it is still open on the weekends:

Link for Cassville ferry
link no work

O.K. I've managed to double our travel time to Madison on Friday. Let me know what you think of this:

I'll try to make time to put Murph's turn-by-turn directions into a Google map.

Joe...you oughtta be able to do better'n dat. :)

Look on some old CFO threads or look up Cnty P, and any of the 3number state roads north of the WI River, west of Hillsboro and south of the interstate.

I've been working on Murph's turn-by-turn directions

Here's the Google map I came up with:

Click on the map to open the Google map.

A word of caution: This map needs to be verified. There are no marked stops for fuel, rest, meals or whatever.

I omitted this from the Google map:

3:46 PM 240.0 Turn RIGHT (South) onto SR-171 [CR-E] 0.7 mi

3:48 PM 240.7 At Boaz, return North on SR-171 [CR-E] 0.7 mi

Murph, Did you plan a stop in Boaz?

This was also omitted, but not deliberately:

4:39 PM 271.4 Turn LEFT (South) onto CR-G 5.3 mi

4:48 PM 276.7 Turn RIGHT (South) onto SR-23 [CR-G] 0.2 mi

4:49 PM 276.9 Turn LEFT (East) onto US-14 [sR-23] 11.4 mi

Not a big deal. I think I reached the limit of distinations I could add.

edit 9/26/08: here's an updated map
