I just ordered (and recieved) my GPSmap 478 with xm reicever. Will the reception be fine on a FJRGoodies dash if I mount the reciever their, or is the mount that you have better because of being more in the open on top of the handlebars.

I think the GXM antenna will work fine up on the shelf. I see no reason why it wouldn't. I cannot use a shelf on my bike, due to my windshield setup.

2 reasons why my GXM30 antenna is up on the reservoir as you see it.

(1) To have it firmly affixed with screws, so that I have zero chance of loosing it.

(2) I initially placed it on my gas tank, but since I run with the Yamaha touring bag most of the time, I would get poor reception on many of the roads I run locally here in the mountains. On top of the reservoir, reception has been mucho better for me.

And finally not much of a reason, but I have a machine shop at my disposal to make whatever I want. :D

Yup, skiwi and his old lady will be at the Cal24, waiting to be spanked by yours truly. Of course, Vectervp1 and I will be there also with our skiwi GXM 30 mounts (Dang - I do believe I still have to pay for mine. ) that is if vectervp1 gets off his lazy arse and paints mine black so I can finally mount the dern'd thang.

I am just trying to figure out why the Wacky Welsh made the thing so thick?

If it were me, I would prefer to have this mounted prior to departure to prevent any chance of loosing it along the way. If you PM me your address details I'll get one off in the mail for tomorrow. It should easily arrive in time.

Or, if you prefer, I will be more than happy to bring one along for you to the Cal24.

So what does waiting for your buddy to paint your mount have to do with paying me?

You just volunteered yourself for the garage floor next month dude. ;)

If you want a thinner GXM mount, I'll galdly sell you some sand paper.

Thanks for the offer MR Skyway I just got back to the computer. I had a plumbing disaster at home yesterday. Yea 3 days before I leave. I am leaving St. Louis this weekend so I could send money paypal and you could mail to my brother in redwood city ca. I will be seeing him before the rally and could mount it at his house. I am sending pm with his address.

Thanks

Mike

Sent payment Paypal. Please ship to address I listed in Redwood city Ca.
Thanks

Some smart guy somewhere invented the "PM" function on this forum just for the sort of communication above.

;)

Sorry to be another side thorn. Was there any consideration for making the thumb screws yellow? Those of us color blind[1] have as tough a time seeing the red as you do seeing the black.

I choose red to aid in spotting them if dropped, but I did not consider color blindness. If yellow is what you want, yellow is what you'll get. ;)

Hey Skyway, I'd like to order one of the mounts, you spoke of a taller version to hide the excess wire. I'd be interested in that one if available otherwise I'll get the present one you offer. Please advise on cost and shipping to NJ Zip 07866. Thanks, Walt

Walt, Here's what I've done for the cable slack on the GXM antenna. If you wrap the cable like this, you cannot see it from the riders seat. For now I am not planning on the taller design. The cost is $35.00 via check, $37.00 via paypal.
