Yamaha Announces 2011 FJR

BTW, to remain on topic...as long as they keep making them I'm happy. I will need to replace this '04 sometime in the distant future, and '04s are starting to get hard to find...so maybe a newer one will be in order when I have to pry this one off my hands.

But, I like that there isn't a lot to draw me to a brand new FJR. It could make my buying a lightly used 2006 seem more appealing due to the lack of "what am I losing in buying used" argument.

I understand why theyve done it though, and to be fair the Gen 2 FJR seems to me to be a very tough to improve on for what it is. It is a machine that is painfully close to perfect. Radically redoing it would cost money and potentially be a worse machine in some respects.

Whatever happened to color options?

Well, git yurself a spray gun and you got all kinds of color options....

I know from personal experience and seeing your handiwork that it takes more than a spray gun and some paint. You also need some amount of skill.

By the way - what would it take to do a complete re-spray? I'm thinking abou going from "Cerullean whatever" to a nice blue. I'de like to find a full set of spare plastic, but could probably strip it down next winter. I'd have to find a big box, though.

I just called customer relations at Yamaha Corp., to vent to them about the non-color change. I indicated to "Ty" that apparently Yamaha doesn't listen/read FJR forums to see what the FJR riders are requesting in a new model. I also indicated that we (my wife Iris and I) were looking to buy two new FJRs this year, but now that Yamaha has decided to stick with the same "Liquid Silver" color we are thinking about switching manufacturers. Don't get me wrong, the FJR has been a great bike, but come on, the same stinking color two years in a row. Is Yamaha trying not to sell bikes? Give the people alittle color. I also told Ty, that Yamaha offers different color schemes in Europe, so it's not like they can't afford to get alittle creative with the paint can.

Sorry.......I just had to vent. Christ.....oopps, did it again. F*#k, :angry: I'm done now.

Some Yami exec's wife must love that Liquid Silver or somebody got a hell of a deal on a boatload of paint. I also wouldn't mind knowing what a complete spray job of the plastic bits would cost by Gerauld. I would also need my Geraulds rack recoated as well. I was hauling some granite slab samples to my wife and they worked their way through their wrapping whilst bunjied to it. Rubbed it raw in a few spots

Or, you could get creative like Ed did when he scuffed his up... Parts from various bikes in differing colors and whatnot...

Wow I am surprised by this. I had been waiting to see what they would do. Guess in the spring I will be getting a concourse. That was part of my plan anyway. Just wanted to see what yamaha would do first.

If you look closely at the Yamaha page (see Post #1), 'way over on the right is a tab for the 2010 model. You can quickly toggle between 2011 and 2010 models and see the vast improvements that Yamaha's engineering and design team have brought us. Besides the heated grips (hey, I had 'em put on my '09), there's the... umm, I mean the... err... well the 2011 seems to be .25" longer! Now that's reason enough to run to your Yammy store and get your order in.

Sarcasm aside, I can only think of two bikes (Harleys don't count) that have had longer model runs without change: Kawasaki Concours 1000 and Honda's ST1300. OK, even the Concours had a small upgrade in 1994 or so, which leaves the ST1300 as the oldest living fossil. And it's still not a bad motorcycle!

Whatever happened to color options? I had a CBR600RR a few years ago and had a choice of 4 or 5 colors

No kidding, Suzuki's always offered at least 2 colors for their $5k elcheapo SV-650, and I was stuck with the ugly Dr Pepper color for my $10k bike. Then to add insult to injury, they finally offer black the next 2 years running. But I guess if that's the *most* I have to bitch about the bike...

The length of run of the fjr tells you how good it really was/is. It really is still competitive to the Concours. The fact that the fjr has been basically unchanged for almost 10 years tells you something about Yamaha.

Are you kidding me Wheat-boy? They are everywhere. I have been looking, and believe me there are tons of them out there. Lots with low miles. Don't know about a few years from now, but right now it's a buyer's market lots of 04s out there.
