last night i was attempting to pull myself over a railing and forgot that i am 51 and not 21........needless to say i didn't make it and went head first on to to concrete path. i put my arms out to brace my fall and hyperextended my left arm.

I thought I had just sprained but after an x-ray it turns out i fractured my elbow. (it is more like a small chip).

I have to see an orthopedic doctor in the next few days and will know more then.

worst comes to worst i WILL be in the Audi........

p.s. You're only 51? Huh.

Who knew?

Do we need to get some Canadian dollars or are they gonna take our dollars with it being so close right now?

R
Whenever I go to the UK (to see Mum) or Mexico, I just use my debit card in a recognized bank's ATM for local currency. I'm sure you could do that for CanaPesos?

Al.
Most US banks charge a fee for international transaction fee, I'm not sure what the % for each transaction. For the US folks you may want to check with your cell carrier to see what the charges for cell coverage will be, it could be as high as $1.00 per min and a long distant charge of $0.35 per mim. I plan on switching to the US/Canadian plan for the month so I won't get the international charges.

Sir Richard take care of those injuries, it just means you cant split lanes and you will still be 100 miles ahead of me on the way up to NAFO

Good point. I just use a Skype phone attached to my Netbook.

It was a very pleasant 70 degrees yesterday on Whidbey Island and the sun was vibrant. No wind and the we sat on the deck with a great bottle of wine, BBQed some rib eye steaks on California red oak and wondered if life got any better than this! 111 degrees is just perfect for reptiles and the Irish! I bet you can't wait to get to the PNW!

DC, very sorry that you won't be making this NAFO run. Maybe something will change between now and then so that you can revise your plans. As for the pic, yeah that jolted me, too, pretty strongly but it was the only shot I had of the Richard and his Audi and the good memories came back along with the sorrow.

As for Canadian dollars, I almost always buy some and almost never end up using them. Most places (fuel, food, groceries) take credit cards and the conversion fees (approximately 1% to 3%)are about the same as the "vig" when one converts currency. For me, there is also a transaction fee at the ATM for foreign currency so the tendency is to buy more than I need. Of course, that then provides a welcome excuse to head back north to Cannuckistan. YMMV.

My friend in Vashon, who might ride up to Castlegar to visit, made only one comment when I informed him of the rally: "Bring your rain gear." With June rain historically 13.5 days out of 30 days in the month, and with our being there for three or four days, he's probably correct.

"Bring your rain gear."

This is my thinking... When I am in the Unitied States I get and use American money. I can't see why a tourist won't do the same in Canada.

As for "bring your rain gear", a well planned motorcyclist would plan for rain but hope not to use it.

Now, should we maybe talk about snow?

Guiseppe y Tomaso, Papa Chuy Viejo is still pissed off they would not let me spend my Canadian Tire money at the Tim Horton's in Antigonish, Nova Scotia! What the Hell good is Canadian Money if you cannot spend it in Canada? Oh Well, if Seth and I finally get to see polar bears "Nord du Ligne" on this trip we will be damn happy!

Hi All,

I truly regret not being able to get to the NAFO. I hope you all have a great time and when you try the Vegemite think of me and try to smile when you do.

Best regards

Surly

Crap!

I had made pretty detailed plans to attend NAFO as one stop on an epic four week+, 14,000 mile cross-continent tour this year. NAFO in south-central BC was of particular interest since I lived in Castlegar for a couple of years (about a dozen years ago). Fantastic place with great roads in the vicinity as well as routes travelling to and from.

Unfortunately, events and work have conspired against me this year and I won't be able to do "The Grand Tour". I guess I will do my riding a little closer to home and plan the journey for another time. At least I will make it to NERDS in Vermont later in the summer. Hope everyone has a great time!

Hey Surly.

I sure hope I'm not around anyone smiling and thinking of you as they have that distinctive salty taste in their mouth. :D

Don't feel bad Ross. I had planned an epic X-Canada trip to the Maritimes - then NAFO popped up.
