Hi ya Bill.

Glad to hear that you are downsizing your town.  I imagine that means moving west-er in Mass.  Berkshires maybe?  I like that part of the state a lot more than the right-hand half that I grew up in, or even the central part you were in.

As for property taxes, I’m working a scheme on that.  In VT the socialists give you a variable credit if your family earnings are below a threshold of 90k.  My scheme is to get everything completely paid off this year, since I’m only a part year resident here anyway, and then minimize my income next year.  Then I benefit by not paying much income tax, and they will discount my property tax the following year by a very tidy percentage.  They don’t care (or know) what you have in the bank if it doesn't show up on your income taxes.

Our new digs are about a mile off where the Puppy Dog Route passes by, just south of the Calendar II Druid ruins, Hobbit House that we visited in south Woodstock. I’m scoping out some new dirt rides in VT on ADVriders that should make it easy to create day loops of nearly all off pavement.  I will be sure to keep you in mind if we put a small group ride together.

We are adding to our camp in Sturbridge and will get rid of Worcester house after that.

I should have known you would have a tax angle :)

Looking forward to riding Vt with you again!

There’s always a tax angle.  But the main reason we have moved to VT is our family nearby and for quality of life.

I really can’t wait for winter.  Going shopping for a diesel tractor with front snow blower.  We have trails behind the house that hook up to the VAST snow mobile trails.  I’m sure you can guess what that will mean.  More fun.  Less people.  Yah!

Fred, do you use the same forum name on ADVrider?  I am beginning to wonder if I will ever make it up to the east coast but a dual sport ride in Vermont sounds wonderful.
